|IMPORTANT: School closing beginning March 18|
|Sunday, March 15, 2020|
Dear Pattonville families and staff,
Pattonville has made the difficult decision to close school beginning Wednesday, March 18, due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic impacting the region. We made this decision in consultation with county health officials and in coordination with St. Louis city and county school districts and the Archdiocese of St. Louis in order to ensure the health, safety and well-being of our students and staff and to do our part in trying to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 throughout the St. Louis region.
School will be in session on Monday and Tuesday, March 16 and 17, and will be closed from March 18 to at least April 5. All school activities, including athletic and extracurricular practices and competitions, will be canceled during the time schools are closed.
We know that in addition to education, our schools provide vital support to our children and families. We are working on contingency plans for at-home learning, which will begin after Pattonville’s previously planned spring break (March 21 through 29). Students will be sent home at the end of the school day on Tuesday, March 17, with an iPad or laptop depending on their grade level in order to support distance learning while school is out. We are also developing plans to support students in providing breakfast and lunch for those who wish to access these meals. We will share more information with you on distance learning and meal plans as soon as possible.
The decision to close our school district was extremely difficult and made out of an abundance of caution for our families. We know closing our schools will have a significant impact on our families, but we also believe that strong, urgent action must be taken to prevent the spread of this disease and to protect lives. Pattonville’s strength is in its community and we will be there to support our students, staff and families in any way we can in the days to come. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we move through this difficult time.
Dr. Tim Pecoraro
